Suspended Ceilings QLD recently completed a fitout on the Gold Coast for a local community group. This project involved suspended ceilings and internal wall linings as part of a commercial fitout on the Gold Coast.
The existing shell
Upon arrival, we found bare Besser block walls and a flush-set ceiling that had deteriorated over time. The ceiling showed visible cracking, likely caused by movement and insufficient back blocking. As a result, we removed all existing plaster to create a safe, blank canvas for the new fitout. In addition, an electrical contractor disconnected the lighting, and contractors removed the unused roller door.
Walls
This project forms part of our broader approach to commercial fitout works, where ceiling and wall systems are delivered together when required. For this Gold Coast fitout, we battened all walls using 28 mm furring channels fixed with adjustable Beta Fix clips.
This approach served two purposes. First, it allowed us to straighten the walls and achieve a better finish. Second, it created additional space to conceal services within the wall cavity.
However, the right-hand side of the fitout contained several columns. To address this, we constructed a new steel stud wall that extended to the furthest point of the columns. This allowed us to conceal them completely and create one long, straight wall.
We then sheeted all walls with 10 mm plasterboard, flush set them, and sanded them ready for painting.
Ceilings
After stripping the existing ceiling out, the next step for our fitout on the Gold Coast was to install an exposed grid suspended ceiling. AMF VENTATEC ceiling grid was chosen to match the AMF Thermofon ceilings tiles our client selected. Thermofon has excellent acoustic properties however most clients purely select it because it looks great. Consequently, our client not only gets the look they want but the acoustic performance where they need it.
